South Africa vs New Zealand All Set for  2nd semi final Champions Trophy 2025

India beat Australia in a nail-biter yesterday, and today is the second semi-final between South Africa and New Zealand. The winner is going to face India in the world cup final. 

How has New Zealand’s tournament shaped up?

New Zealand will be wary of South Africa’s first-choice bowling unit as Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen didn’t play in the tri-series but can trouble batters on any pitch.

New Zealand romped to two big wins against host Pakistan at Karachi and against Bangladesh at Rawalpindi as they were not only clinical with the bat and ball, but took some splendid catches in the field. However, despite excelling in all the departments in Pakistan, their batters looked vulnerable against spinners, with nine wickets falling to slow Indian bowlers on Sunday.

How has South Africa’s Champions Trophy run shaped up?

“The nerves are a little bit less because we have a little bit more experience in the semifinal department now,” Klaasen said. “We just had some bad luck here and there and one or two games that didn’t go our way, but we’ve been playing good cricket.

“It’s the rewards that we’re seeing now. The boys are holding a little bit more composure in the bigger moments in the game.”

How will New Zealand respond to defeat by India?

“We are lucky. We’ve had some experience playing here in the tri-series before the tournament actually kicked off,” Stead told reporters on a video call.

“We’ve got some on-ground experience and I guess some positive emotions to fall back on the way we played here as well.”

“We haven’t been down to the ground yet to see if we’re on a used wicket or not, but generally these wickets are pretty good batting surfaces,” he added.

“They don’t bounce too much.

“South Africa are a very, very good side and we’re going to have to play right near our best to beat them,” he added.

An Indian cricket team champions trophy win would be a huge boost for star players. However, both sides are very strong. 

India and Australia have a pretty even win ratio. Both sides have won twice each since 2011. India won in the 2018 and 2023 World Cups. The indian side lost the 2023 final and 2015 semi finals to the Aussies. 

The Australian side has been in better form in the past. The Indian team has been doing great. However, there are big questions. The legend Virat Kohli for instance has been around for an insane amount of time. In fact he has just played his 300th ODI. Also other players like Ravindra Jadeja and Rhit Sharma are from a by gone era. How much longer can they do will in ODis. When will they get too old and drop in performance? Maybe this Champions Trophy?

They all want to go out with a bang and would love to take home another. Kohli won the 2011 World Cup and all three oldies werre key in the 2013 champions trophy as well. However, they are going to face an Australian team that even though has seen better days continues to be dominant.

The day is clear and sunny and the temperature is at about 29 degree Celsius. The pitch is such that it will slow down and favours the batting side and it is expected that the side that wins the toss will choose to bat first.

Pakistan and Bangladesh were unable to face each other due to heavy rains and downpour in the city of Rawalpindi which forced the match to be called off. This following the defeat to India has been nothing but bad news for the Pakistan Cricket Board which had finally been able to host a major tournamant after about three decades. 

The Pakistani team has come under fire from cricketing greats in the country from the likes of Wasim Akram, Shoaib Akhtar, Ramiz Raja and many other cricketing greats who have lashed out at the player selection and the leadership of the team which they  say has not been up to the task when it comes to champions trophy 2025. 

This was supposed to be the last of the group stages for both sides. Pakistan has been knocked out of the competition already even though they are the hosts. 

The last time Pakistan hosted a major international cricket event was back in 1996. That time was the ICC Cricket World Cup. The star players of the team are under intense pressure. Babar Azam the cricket captain and major players like Shaheen Shah Afridi have not been able to live to the expectations of fans and cricket officials alike. They might even be fired from their jobs. 

The match against India which Pakistan lost by a stunning margin and also saw Virat Kholi getting a century is what has pushed the team out of the tournament. 

In fact the team was not able to win a single match during the whole competition. This is even worse considering the fact that this was their first hosting chance in a generation. The matter has reached the highest levels of the Pakistani government and strict action is likely.
